The Drowned Coast

Vanaheim, hero balance changes, clearer introductions, and new realm art and sound.

These notes describe a testing build. Store access depends on review, processing, and testing enrollment; RuneShift has not launched publicly.

The Drowned Coast is the 0.10.0 testing-build content update. These notes also cover maintenance changes through 0.10.4. For the subsequent Free Play and Time Attack update, see 0.10.5.

Vanaheim opens a fourth realm, with a storm-swept coast, a new hero and relic, and new foes. Hero balance, clearer introductions and realm atmosphere round out the update.

Vanaheim

  • Explore a new realm with its own enemies, boss, hidden encounter and rewards. Rain leaves runes Waterlogged, halving their damage until they dry. On Hard, waves push the board sideways. You can keep swapping available runes and making matches while waves wait for clears and falls; only the brief slide pauses swaps, and held selections follow surviving runes.
  • Unlock Rán and arrange matches for Drowned Harvest to haul together. Discover Frithiof’s Ring, new Vanaheim achievements and Rán’s sagas. All-realm challenges now include Vanaheim; achievements already earned stay yours.
  • Aurora’s Breath clears Waterlogged, and Warding Stave shortens its duration.

Hero balance

  • Raised rows grant 1 ability charge instead of 2 for every hero.
  • Thor’s Storm-Caller rolls at each chain step: 20% at chain 2, 30% at chain 3, then 10 percentage points more per step, up to 100% at chain 10.
  • Thor’s Lightning-match splash increases from 20% to 40%.
  • Skadi’s Frost Arrow deals 20% splash to other enemies. Killing its main target increases splash to 50%. Surviving main targets still receive Frostbound.
  • Sinmara’s Leváteinn’s Edge splits its damage evenly among living enemies, with full damage against a lone enemy. Existing Burns detonate before the hit, and survivors receive a new Burn. Overkill no longer carries onward.

Item balance

  • Amber Bead adds 20–35% splash across its upgrades, up from 10–25%.
  • Lightning Rod’s damage cap drops from 200 to 80 per strike.
  • Healing Potions cost more per HP than healing at the forge.
  • Once you carry two Focus charms, further Focus charms stop appearing in offers and rewards.

Rewards

  • Sea-Worn Driftwood has new tide-worn wood and clearer carved runes. Earn it with your first Vanaheim clear. Existing owners keep it, and previous Vanaheim clears receive it automatically.
  • Leftover gold converts to platinum only after a Hard victory, at 100 gold per platinum. Normal completion platinum and other platinum rewards are unchanged.

Learning and puzzles

  • Begin with a shorter, hands-on introduction to swaps, matches, healing and abilities. First-time and echo prompts use concise text, wider panels and larger type, with optional More info for the details.
  • Mystery events wait for you to start before their timers run. Fixed-board puzzles such as The Norns’ Knot no longer refill themselves. Free-play puzzles such as Whetstone begin with a full grid and Auto Rise enabled.

Interface

  • Platinum and key syncing recovers after long outages and ignores outdated balance responses.
  • Settings offer larger menu text, reduced motion and reduced bright flashes. Mystery boards make better use of the screen.
  • Shop cards show the offered item’s full effect and missing gold. Chest screens make key rewards, Keep, Reroll and costs easier to read. Search the Codex by known names, effects and elements, and open the map Legend for icons.
  • Enemy counts sit above the battlefield, and banked-charge messages stay in front of the frame. Share realm-clear images through your device’s share sheet.

Realm art and sound

  • Map and combat frames match each realm, including realm changes in the Endless Gauntlet. Frost, embers and dust drift across the earlier realms.
  • Vanaheim has its own map, battle, boss and hidden-encounter music. Each hero has a distinct attack impact sound, with new sounds for Vanaheim’s effects.
  • Storm-touched runes keep their glow until Chain Lightning hits them, then show their bonus damage.

0.10.3: reward sync fix

Fixes an issue that could block platinum and key rewards from syncing with the server. Pending rewards now retry safely, and daily and weekly challenge rewards refresh your balance after confirmation.

0.10.4: currency recovery

Fixes additional causes of platinum and key mismatches between devices. Valid run rewards no longer block later rewards, declined purchases no longer hold up syncing, and account resets cancel old pending transactions. Balances refresh automatically after reconnecting.
